Interim Management Accountant
Location: Bath (hybrid)

Rate: £250-£300 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 3-6 months (likely longer)

Our client is a privately owned UK subsidiary within a wider international group. The business requires an experienced Management Accountant to take full ownership of day-to-day finance operations and deliver timely, high-quality group reporting.

This is a hands-on role within a modern, cloud-based finance environment, offering real autonomy and direct exposure to senior leadership.

 

Why this role exists

During a transition period, the organisation requires experienced support to ensure financial control, reporting integrity, and operational continuity.

Leadership needs clean ledgers, robust controls, accurate multi-entity consolidation, and insightful management information delivered at pace.

This role has been created to provide stability, ownership, and forward-looking financial visibility while supporting process optimisation across the finance function.

 

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take full ownership of the finance cycle, ensuring operational accuracy and delivering meaningful insight to leadership:

  • Maintain ledger integrity, oversee daily postings, reconciliations, AP & AR cycles, expenses and payroll journals
  • Manage rolling cashflow forecasting and highlight variances or risks to the Head of Finance
  • Lead full month-end close including accruals, prepayments, revenue recognition, FX and intercompany adjustments
  • Consolidate international group entities and produce Group P&L and Balance Sheet within tight reporting deadlines
  • Deliver concise, insight-driven management information packs including KPI dashboards and variance commentary
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP / FRS102 and support external advisors with tax and statutory reporting
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and capitalisation policies
  • Improve processes and system integrations across the cloud finance stack, identifying automation opportunities
  • Support budgeting cycles and provide ad-hoc commercial analysis and scenario modelling

 

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a confident, hands-on finance professional who can step in and add value immediately.

  • Experience within an SME environment with full ownership of month-end
  • Experience of multi-entity consolidation, ideally within an international structure
  • Strong Excel / Google Sheets capability and confidence using cloud accounting systems
  • Clear communicator, able to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented and comfortable working independently
  • Part-qualified / qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or strong QBE preferred
  • Exposure to multi-currency and international reporting environments advantageous

 

How success is measured

Success in this assignment will be defined by stability, clarity, and control:

  • Clean, accurate ledgers with strong financial governance.
  • Month-end closed within five working days with reliable consolidated reporting
  • Clear and insightful management information delivered to leadership.
  • Improved cashflow visibility and forecasting accuracy.
  • Enhanced processes and documented controls that leave a lasting impact beyond the contract period.

We're supporting a fantastic, Bristol-based professional services SME with the search for a new Financial Controller. The business sits at ~£10m revenue, and has experienced steady growth in recent years in particular.

Now undertaking a strategic shift in optimising a broad range of processes across the company, advancing their cross-departmental integrations, and tapping further into AI and the advantages it can bring to their industry.

 

About The Role

This is a number one finance position, reporting to the MD and Board.

The role will assume total responsibility for financial operations & controls, financial leadership and people management, transactional finance processes, cashflow and reporting, and budgeting and commercial support to the SLT and wider business Heads.

The role offers hybrid working in central Bristol, ideally at a minimum of 2 days on site.

 

About The Candidate

We're looking for a fully qualified accountant who is experienced in an SME environment. The role will be dynamic, "no two days the same", requiring the Financial Controller to be confident in reaching out to your peers to find out what you don't know.

Ideally, you shall have experience in a number one role, but we are also very much open to someone making the step up from a 2ic position.

 

A services background is strongly preferred but not an essential requirement. Your ability to be a trusted leader to the MD and Board, showing confidence in delivering key reporting and presentations, will be highly advantageous.
