Job Description
Interim Management Accountant (FTC)
Fixed Term Contract until Dec 2026
Bristol
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 per annum
The Opportunity
We’re partnering with a highly diverse, privately owned business in Bristol to appoint a commercially minded Management Accountant.
This is far from a “sit in the corner and produce the numbers” role. You’ll be working closely with budget holders and operational managers, helping them understand performance, challenge assumptions and drive better decision-making across a varied portfolio of activities.
If you enjoy partnering with non-financial stakeholders, thrive in a hands-on environment and want genuine ownership across month-end, reporting and forecasting — this could be for you.
The Role
Reporting into the Head of Finance, you’ll take responsibility for delivering timely, accurate management information and maintaining strong financial controls across the organisation
Key responsibilities include:
- Full ownership of month-end processes (journals, accruals, prepayments, recharges, fixed assets)
- Preparation of monthly Management Accounts with meaningful commentary and variance analysis
- Budgeting and dynamic forecasting, partnering closely with budget holders
- Cashflow reporting and bank reconciliations
- Balance sheet reconciliations with documented investigation of variances
- KPI and project performance reporting (including analysis of overspends and operational metrics)
- Oversight of AP/AR processes, PO controls and credit card programmes
- Payroll review and integrity checks
- VAT and other tax reporting support (including P11D and partnership returns)
- Maintenance of the asset register and alignment with insurance records
- Supporting finance system improvements and change projects
There is also exposure to senior leadership reporting and group-level meetings, giving you visibility and influence beyond finance.
About You
You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) with previous experience in a Management Accountant role
Beyond the technical skills, personality and approach matter here.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Can confidently explain financial performance to non-finance stakeholders
- Is commercially aware and comfortable challenging constructively
- Has strong Excel capability
- Understands VAT and compliance fundamentals
- Operates with discretion and professionalism
- Takes ownership and enjoys improving processes
- Can manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
This environment suits someone pragmatic, solutions-focused and comfortable operating in a changing, multi-stream business setting
Why This Role?
- Broad, hands-on exposure across multiple business streams
- Genuine stakeholder interaction — not just reporting in isolation
- Opportunity to influence budgets, forecasts and operational decisions
- Involvement in finance system improvements and process evolution
- A values-led, collaborative working culture
